A New Beginning (IR 3 - #6, Jan 1 - Mar 18)

I have a lot of predictions for the next part of the book I read. During this part of the book, from January 1 to March 18, Alice is adjusting to her new home. She has a lot of trouble making friends, unlike her brother and sister who immediately find friends right away. Alice puts on weight and acts like it doesn't bother her, but secretly, I think it may. Her appearance grows to be more and more unkempt, and her mom keeps commenting about how she should really make herself look better, but Alice doesn't care. She finds a friend named Greta who seems to be just like Alice. Alice looks down on herself and sees herself as being extremely awkward and ugly. She looks at Greta the same way so she thinks that they'll be really good friends. All the while, Alice feels as though she's a huge disgrace to her parents and that she's really embarassing them. She even thinks that her friendship with Greta is embarassing and disgraceful to them which I find very sad. I think that things will only get worse from here. You can tell from Alice's diary entries that she isn't happy at all and she keeps looking at herself in such a negative matter. She really didn't bother to try and make new friends; she just clung to Greta because Greta was just as antisocial and pathetic as she was. I think Alice may start to develop another eating disorder because she seems to ne very unhappy with herself, and she thinks that she's letting people down. As a way to control herself and punish herself, I think she may turn to another eating disorder or maybe even drugs. Alice thinks that she's a huge dissappointment to her family, and she's a big dissappointment to herself as well. At this point in time, I think she's pretty lost and she doesn't really have anyone to turn to. This is why I belive she may turn to drugs or another form of self-destructiveness.
